PrologueIt was in 1903 that the Wright brothers completed construction of an aircraft with an engine and succeeded in making humankind’s rst powered ight. The two men’s wisdom and enthusiasm, and their idea—epoch-making at the time—of mounting a heavy engine in an aircraft, triggered a transformation in the lives of human beings. Subsequently, as evidenced by the rst manned landing on the Moon in 1969, the human race made vigorous strides forward, propelled by the development of machinery technologies, and that progress continues today.Moritani & Co., Ltd. was founded in 1901, two years prior to that rst ight by the Wright brothers, and for more than a century since then the Company has striven constantly to contribute to the development of society through the sale of industrial machinery and equipment. We are looking to the future as well, and we intend to remain a company that is constantly dedi-cated to the pursuit of new discoveries, never fearing change—a rm that aspires to foster global develop-ment and human progress.
